“He’s one of them rangers. Dangerous folk they are - wandering the wilds. What his right name is I’ve never heard, but around here, he’s known as Strider.”
i like having things planned out so i know what i’m doing and stuff yeah idk if i don’t do it i never get anything done so
not that i really get much done anyway lmao school is eating up all my time i feel like all i do is sleep and school and homework and repeat
i’m not sure? like, if you just want me to post something on ao3, i can put up the ‘liam malik’ fic that is already on tumblr so that one’s also on ao3 on sunday or something, but if you were wondering when i’m going to be posting something NEW?
that might take a bit longer. i’ve been trying to write superheroes au but it’s been really hard for me to get into it and it’s taken so long and ugh and i kind of abandoned it to work on kid detectives au instead? so i don’t really know, i’m sorry. hopefully soon!!! i’ve also been REALLY busy at school but today is my last day until january so i’ll have more time, hopefully :3
hmmm. okay well the way i do it (and i’m not saying that’s the best way for everyone but it’s what i do), i start obviously with my idea. and then i start plotting it out. that’s the most important step for me pre-writing and it takes a long time to do it (several days, actually). i usually start up a google doc for this purpose, so i can share it with people that can help me, (caitlin and amoy, mostly), and then i get started.
if it’s an au, i start by writing little descriptions of all the boys and their roles in the story, what they do for a living, how they dress and wear their hair, who knows each other before the beginning of the fic and what their relationships are etc. then i choose which of their friends etc will be used for what role in the fic - simon might be someone’s boss, paul might be a butler or a tutor or something like that, josh and andy and other people they know their own age will be their friends, who can i cast as antagonists, and so on.
then i plot out the fic, scene by scene. you can do this by just plotting out major plot points but i prefer to have every scene planned out because i am incredibly anal about my writing idk. i research anything that needs researching (case in point: last night i spent three hours reading about butlers and housekeepers and other staff in ahhh households for my kid detectives au). if the fic is canon, the research process in even more exhaustive because i need to figure out which dates they were what places etc.
and when i’m done with all that, THEN i start writing. typically, my main concern here is dialogue, and how to make the dialogue believable and in character without being over the top. i usually spend a lot of time watching interviews from the time i’m writing the fic in (if i’m writing one that takes place during txf, i watch interviews from back then, etc), to see how they spoke and acted at the time. if i do au, i watch interviews from the time they were the closest to the way i’m writing them in the fic.
and then i spend a lot of time crying to caitlin about how it isn’t working for me and i send her things to get her opinion on it and that’s basically it?????
